interesting place. out of the ward parkway, south side dillard’s rubble comes a quaint strip mall of eateries. one of these eateries is smitty’s garage. originally born in oklahoma, this burger shop is the initial smitty’s expansion offering in the kc metro.

upon entry the word ‘garage’ definitely fits the aesthetic. heavy with garage signs, maps and street signs, it is an eyeful, but not off putting or overdone. the menu has a wide array of burger choices with hip toppings such as egg, peanut butter and jelly, pineapple and guacamole. not only are burgers abound, but multiple taco, salad and chicken choices are available as well. they even pimp their fried shrimp basket, which looked extremely edible.

i had my go at the egg-o-nater burger; single patty with mayo, lettuce, tomato, bacon, egg and american cheese. the lovely server at the counter advised this burger was better eaten with a texas toast bun, so i obliged and was not unhappy. with the texas toast, this burger had more a feel of a version of the blt, minus the b, with different b added. this was an easy eat. i like mayo and between the healthy amount of mayo and buttery texas toast i found myself wanting more ¾ the way through my session. it was rich, fulfilling and perfectly matched with all the ingredients in harmony. i added an order of fresh cut fries to matchup the burger and found happiness at 160 degrees.

this locale also has a fairly eclectic drink menu including 3 libations you can get in a plastic pineapple for the added flair. menus can be seen at eatatthegarage.com.

a definite recommendation if you are near the 91st and state line corridor. go in, eat, drink, be happy, enjoy the décor and games on the tvs.
