opened in 1980 by founder manny lopez, manny's mexican restaurant is a kc favorite. situated on the boulevard, in a flood safe area, manny's sits in the middle of crossroads. parking may be short most visits, but the walk and wait is completely worth it.
once inside, a cramped bar waiting area welcomes you with the smell of tortilla chips. walking to the seating area you will notice the restaurant is much larger than anticipated and holds quite a few patrons. great vibe and mexican pictures/art are strewn throughout. now food...
the menu is simple; tacos, burritos, enchiladas, salads, fajitas, tostadas, etc... different combination plates tempt you with one or two of each item. today i ordered the tres enchilada platter; 3 onion and cheese enchiladas, rice and side lettuce. the enchiladas are filled heartily with cheddar and onion, topped with additional cheddar and red sauce. they aren't a gooey mess, which is nice. rather the filling remains pretty stout in all it's packed in glory. one of my favorites on the menu is manny's rice. not over/under seasoned and cooked to perfection... every time. you don't need much more than this, a lot of food, very filling. the price is reasonable for the amount of food served.
when in kansas city this is a must try place. put it on the list. kc is full of mexican restaurants and manny's is at or near the top of the list for all occasions. Also, if you are in town the first friday of the month and in the crossroads area, 'first fridays' art/street fair will be blowing up in every direction from the restaurant. another must attend event.
